Since our trip to New Orleans last year, I’ve been collecting photos of utility pipe covers and manhole covers. I think the appeal for me is related to my love of making quilts from a collection of similar but not identical blocks. This was taken in Pittsburgh, last Labor Day weekend, while I was visiting my pal Jen.

This is a detail shot of one of the doors of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona. The textures in the cast metal of these doors were endlessly fascinating. I will post a few more in subsequent entries.
