Shooting Stars (the pink flowers here) are also native wildflowers in the East Bay, though they are somewhat uncommon. They are also very tiny, with the flowers maybe an inch long from top to bottom. I’m not sure what the yellow blossom is, but it adds a kind of otherworldly quality to this image.

Garden View
A view of the gardens at Harkness State Park in Connecticut.
Fritillaria
After admiring this watercolor for many years, I was very pleased to encounter this fritillaria growing in the wild. I came across it on a spring wildflower hike here in the East Bay.
Gravestone with Moon-Faced Angel
From an old cemetery in Massachusetts, Newburyport if I recall correctly.
Cropped Dogwood
It’s no doubt obvious that I like to photograph flowers. Dogwoods are a particular favorite; I love the curves and kinks in the shapes of the petals.
Ferris Wheel Lights
A travelling carnival comes to our neighborhood twice a year, and Dan and I like to go shoot it. He’s got a real knack for striking up conversations with strangers, and we’ve heard some interesting stories while talking to the folks working the carnival. There’s something about the combination of the cameras and the conversation that intantly takes us out of the category of “mark,” and puts them at ease with him.
Lone White Rock
More on the beach theme, though I can’t recall where this one was taken.
Fish on Fence
This is a detail from a fence at Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA. I used to live a short drive from this beach, and I loved to go there after work to see the sunset.
Dunes in Winter
My friend Donna and I have dramatically different preferences in many things, temperature being one of them. She loves the summertime heat, and I love the rain and cold weather. During the year that we shared an apartment, I managed to drag her to the beach near our place in the winter. This was one of about three shots I managed to get while she waited in the car, muttering about what kind of idiot wants to be at the beach when there’s snow on the ground.
Fish Story Lodge
This whimsical bird house was found in Rockport, MA, part of a beautiful day of hiking with my dear friends Donna and Scott. It’s a treat to have friends who are also photographers!
